About me
Hi there. Let me introduce myself. My name is Hazel Murrell.

I love books and loved drawing, so illustrating was something that really appealed to me as I grew up. In 2002 I graduated with a degree in Illustration for Children's Publishing and went to work in a variety of jobs, including the library, while developing my style and working on private commissions.

For 3 years I had the pleasure of setting up and running my own little Children's bookshop, where I learnt more about the book industry than I could ever imagine.

I was selected for the Longlist for the 2018 Undiscovered Voices, earning an Honorary Mention. I have created and illustrated a number of books, including a series of personalised Christmas books and the 'Emily's Mysterious Adventures' series, written by author Paul Brown.

I now work as a school Librarian and spend the rest of my time illustrating from my studio at home in the Essex Countryside (with the help of my dog and husband).
I am a member of SCBWI, CILIP and am currently taking a course with the fantastic The Goodship Illustration.
